A Report On The Subtitle Translation Of The Documentary Series Xinjiang:Our Stories Be Told | | Posted on:2022-12-08 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:X R Ning | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2505306608991749 | Subject:Higher Education | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | The author worked as an intern at the International Communication Department of People’s Daily Online from July 7,2021 to October 7,2021.During the internship,the author translated the subtitles of Xinjiang:Our Stories Be Told,a featured documentary produced by People’s Daily Online as a response to the so-called "human rights problems" in Xinjiang.The documentary recorded the real life of people in Xinjiang,and presented the booming economy in the region.The translation was revised by a Chinese reviser and a native English speaker.This report uses the framework of Comprehension,Expression,and Adaptation(CEA)put forward by Li Changshuan for case analysis.By comparing the original and revised translation,the author summarizes the problems and solutions;for examples not changed after proofreading,the author demonstrates her translation process and solutions.The author has learned a lot from this translation internship.In comprehension,the author believes that translators should be mindful of ambiguity and stand ready for verification of the specific meaning.They need to delve into the texts and dig out the true meaning rather than only focus on words and phrases.In expression,translators should use words precisely,and avoid Chinglish collocations.Strong verbs as well as simple and short sentences should be preferred and coherence be ensured.Lastly,translators need to be flexible with forms of expression.When the original form does not work,translators should make proper adaptation. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | subtitle translation, CEA Framework(Comprehension,Expression,Adaptation), Xinjiang:Our Stories Be Told | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
