A Report On Interpreting For China Tire Brand Overseas Promotion Pakistan Performance From The Perspective Of The Interpretive Theory

The report is completed based on the author’s interpreting practice for China（Shandong）Tire Brand Overseas Promotion Pakistan Performance in Guangrao International Convention Center on August 18th,2020.Commissioned by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shandong Sub-council,the author worked as the only consecutive interpreting interpreter for both Chinese and Pakistani speakers.To make the interpreting task a success,the interpreter not only did preparatory work mainly in the aspects of linguistic knowledge and extra-linguistic knowledge,he also sought theoretical guidance for this interpreting practice.The Interpretive Theory of Translation,as the first systematic interpreting theory in the world,claims that the objective of interpretation is not the language but rather the meaning expressed with the help of language,and language is just one of the preconditions for understanding the meaning.The view of the Interpretive Theory makes it appropriate to guide conference interpreting practice.Then under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory,the author employed the following techniques in the interpreting process,including literal translation,addition,restructuring,omission and combination to make the sense accurately expressed.The report consists of six chapters.The first chapter is introduction,including the background of the project,significance of the report and the organization of the report.The second chapter describes the interpreting task,including background information,clients and procedures,difficulties and challenges and pre-task preparations.The third chapter introduces the theoretical framework,including the origin and development of the Interpretive Theory and the three steps of the Interpretive Theory,and studies of the theoretical application in interpreting and its feasibility in video conference interpreting.Chapter four is case analysis,elaborating the interpreting techniques used under the guidance of the theory,including the use of literal translation,addition,restructuring,omission and combination.Chapter five is the feedback from clients and the author’s self-reflections.Chapter six is conclusion.The author hopes the analysis of his performance in this online conference interpreting project and the techniques employed in light of the Interpretive Theory will not only help improve his own performance in this field in the future,but also give some enlightenment for other interpreters,thus helping them make more targeted preparation and improve their interpreting performance.
