From the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, the theory and creation of monuments have achieved comprehensive success. The theory of stele is unprecedented prosperous, and the number of calligraphers of stele school is endless. They have carried out a lot of exploratory practice, and the theory and practice of stele have occupied the upper hand.Under this background,Shen Yinmo’s group reflected on the thought of stelology and corrected the calligraphy of stele school from the aspect of creation. They put forward the idea of "from Tang Dynasty to Jin Dynasty".They thought that the regular script of Tang Dynasty was strict and detailed, and the most important thing was that in Tang Dynasty, the inscriptions and posts were integrated, unlike that after Song Dynasty, the inscriptions and posts were separated into two ways. From Tang Dynasty to Jin Dynasty, not only can the handwriting of the inscriptions and posts be unified, but also is a shortcut to further study the calligraphy of Jin Dynasty. The purpose of Shen Yinmo’s group’s calligraphy thoughts is to return to the state of natural writing and oppose the style with artistic tendency after the Qing Dynasty’s stelology. They treat steles and posts with an objective attitude. They emphasize the importance of integrating steles and posts and controlling posts with steles in theory and creation, which is of great significance to the calligraphy creation at present. In this paper, the research of this topic is mainly from four parts:The first part:the afterwind of the study of Steles in the Qing Dynasty has been affecting the Republic of China, resulting in the decline of the study of calligraphy in the early period of the Republic of China. In the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, the theory and practice of Stele Study have achieved a comprehensive victory. The theoretical thought of Stele Study is unprecedented prosperous, and gradually formed a relatively complete theoretical system of Stele Study. At the same time,a large number of calligraphers of stele school emerged to practice the creation of stele calligraphy. They either started from the pure creation of the North stele,or integrated the steles that tend to the North stele, with Wu Changshuo and Shen Zengzhi as representatives.Comparatively speaking, only in the middle and later period of the Republic of China did the group of calligraphy study with Shen Yinmo as the core emerge. The second part:Ruan Yuan’s "North South Division Theory" was refuted by Shen Yinmo’s group calligraphers, who began to reflect on the issue of stele and calligraphy ontology. Both pan Boying and Bai Jiao believed that calligraphy could not be divided into North and south,or even into inscriptions.Shen Yinmo proved the importance of the combination of inscriptions in theory and practice. The third part:Tang Dynasty,as a connecting era of calligraphy tradition,is the existence that can not be ignored by later generations.Kang Youwei of Qing Dynasty put forward the idea of "respecting Wei and despising Tang Dynasty".He believed that regular script calligraphy in Tang Dynasty was rigid and stagnant, while Wei tablet calligraphy was naturally formed, with Wei Jin rhyme. But Shen Yinmo thought that we should "learn from the Tang Dynasty",and what we should learn is the law of the Tang Dynasty. In fact, the purpose of,learning from the Tang Dynasty" and "learning from the Tang Dynasty" is to catch up with the calligraphy style of Wei and Jin Dynasties, while the steles and posts did not split in the Tang Dynasty,so it is more legal to follow them from Tang Dynasty to Jin Dynasty,so "learning from the Tang Dynasty" is beneficial to learning the calligraphy of Jin Dynasty. The fourth part:in the era of the Republic of China’s Stele Study,Shen Yinmo’s group emphasized the practicability and daily use of writing. The so-called difference between Stele Study and calligraphy study is actually the difference in word formation, rhythm and writing. In the Qing Dynasty, the study of stele gradually formed a tendency of art, which was separated from the handwriting of calligraphy itself, and the study of calligraphy was more practical in daily things. The emphasis of Shen Yinmo’s calligraphy group on calligraphy has an important enlightening effect on calligraphy creation in the future.
