This thesis aims at figuring out the correlation between explicitation and interpreting quality within the case study among interpreting trainees conducting Chinese-English consecutive interpreting from the perspective of users of interpreting.Based on the classification of explicitation in Klaudy(1998)and Tang(2018),the author classifies explicitation into obligatory explicitation and optional explicitation.Three sub-categories are further categorized in the former one as grammar-based,logic-based and meaning-based explicitation;and two sub-categories in the latter one based on whether it’s with practical meaning or not.10 interpreting trainees are invited to conduct the interpreting task and 5 to evaluate the interpreting quality. All the participants are students majoring in English interpreting in SEIS,year 2020.It turns out that interpreting trainees with high proportion of obligatory explicitation to the total of explicitation and at the same time, few meaningless optional explicitation get higher marks, implicating the users believe these interpreting trainees perform better.Considering the influencing factors of interpreting quality, the former feature represents the accurate, complete and fluent delivering within a specific style;and the latter is related to the concise, efficient and professional performance. Therefore,it’s important for interpreting trainees to take explicitation seriously in daily training in order to achieve better performance.
