This is a practice report,and the subject of research is the subtitling for dubbing North Woods Law.North Woods Law is a reality show on the Animal Planet Channel of the United States.The dialogue of the show is based on daily conversations related to the host’s work.This report is originated from the author’s work experience.The report mainly describes the process of subtitling for dubbing and also roughly describes the characteristics of other different types of subtitling.From the author’s point of view,subtitling,especially subtitling for dubbing,is usually slightly modified and edited transcript of interpreting.After the processing work of the various departments in the middle is completed,subtitling for dubbing will still be displayed in the form of sound.The author views subtitling for dubbing from the perspective of an interpreter,and discovers the great similarities between subtitling for dubbing and interpreting,especially in the use of interpreting theory.And strictly,interpreting is a necessary step in subtitling.Although in many cases,subtitling is considered to be a type of written translation,it is actually not the fact.Both subjects of interpreting and subtitling are contents of oral presentations.The differences between the two are just the process and ways of presentation.Subtitles using interpretation theories and techniques are much more effective,and subtitling for dubbing is even more so with the blessing of source language-oriented principle.At the same time,the author also believes that subtitles can also be used as a material for practicing interpreting.TV programs with simple and easy-to-understand dialogues are especially suitable for beginners of interpreting.Although subtitling for dubbing is different from interpreting in ways of final presentations,without the help of interpreting,it will be difficult to improve the quality of subtitling for dubbing.Learners of interpreting can use the relationship between the two to find ways to improve their abilities. |
