A Study Of E-C Adjectives Translation Practice Of Fiction From The Eco-translatological Perspective

In the process of translating the British fiction Darkside written by Belinda Bauer,this thesis uses theory of Eco-translatology to explore the translation adaptation and selection strategies from three dimensions which are linguistic dimension,cultural dimension and communicative dimension.Belinda Bauer uses various coordinate adjectives and polysemous adjectives in her novel,which advocates the literary flavor.But at the same time,it makes the translation of adjectives become the main difficulty in this project.The Eco-translatology,a unique translation school with Oriental characteristics,advocates the ecological balance thought in translating activities,and regards translation as a process of adaptation and selection.It breaks the dualistic thinking of traditional translation thoughts that has been dominated by the West for a long time.It gives attention to the whole translation process,emphasizes relevance,dynamics and balance in translation,and highlights that translating strategies,principles and methods should be adapted in a more flexible way.Besides,the Three-dimensional Transformation Principle promotes translators’ central position by attaching great importance to the translators’ subjective initiative.It requires translators to conform to the trend of the time and meet the needs of readers constantly.So,the Three-dimensional Transformation Principle can play an effective guiding role in adjective translation.As an attempt to adopt Three-dimensional Transformation Principle in the process of translating adjectives,the purpose of this thesis is to further proving the feasibility of Eco-translatology in guiding the translation of literary text,and to summarize available strategies and methods.As for the linguistic dimension,in order to make the translated texts conform to Chinese linguistic forms and convey the meaning of the original words,the translator mainly adopts translating methods of amplification and inversion.With reference to the cultural dimension,the translator adopts foreignization strategy to convey original culture connotation of the novel and avoids putting reading burden on target language readers.As for the communicative dimension,adaptation method can be utilized to realize the communicative goal and keep the translated text readable.
