Image Narrative In Picture Books

As the ancient book in pre-Qin Dynasty,The Classic of Mountains and Seas covers the content of many aspects,including astronomy,geography,folklore,mythology and so on in ancient times,which can embody the ancestors’ understanding and views of the world.The Classic of Mountains and Seas is mainly composed of three parts,such as The Classic of Mountains,The Classic of Seas and The Classic of Remote Areas.In The New Classic of Mountains and Seas,it takes the story in The Classic of Mountains as the creative prototype,which is re-adapted by incorporating the story plot of "time and space leap" on this basis.When it comes to picture book,it is a kind of carrier that caries out the narrative in the way of combining picture and text.Thus,it is able to transform complex text into intuitive picture.In this thesis,it hopes to take advantage of picture book with the features of vivid picture in text to express the story in the book,so as to present the original obscure story in a way that people can accept.In this way,it can enable the audience to understand the profound philosophy contained in the book The Classic of Mountains and Seas.In this thesis,it takes the narrative of picture books as the starting point,and takes the graduation creation The New Classic of Mountains and Seas as the research object.Firstly,it makes exploration on the rules that the narrative picture books need to comply with by analyzing the concept,features and composition of picture books.Secondly,it uses the first person perspective to connect the stories,which also takes the linear narrative as the narrative strategy of picture book to carry out the creation.The picture book of The New Classic of Mountains and Seas makes the narration more interesting based on the dynamic changes of characters and the transformations between various scene spaces.The purpose of this thesis is to present the obscure words in The Classic of Mountains and Seas in a visual way through practical creation,which tries to make the prototype story in The Classic of Mountains and Seas radiate new artistic appeal,so as to arouse the public’s recognition of the outstanding traditional culture in our country.In the meantime,some reference can be provided for the research and creation of picture books.
