English Curriculum Standards for General Senior High Schools(2017)focuses on students’ core English literacy and proposes to pay attention to the cultivation of students’ cultural awareness.Reading is an important part of English teaching in senior high school,which has a profound impact on the improvement of students’ core English literacy,especially the cultivation of cultural awareness.At present,there are many research results on cultural awareness cultivation in English teaching both at home and abroad,but at present,there is a lack of research literature on the cultivation of cultural awareness in reading teaching.Moreover,there is a lack of research literature on cultural awareness cultivation in English reading teaching based on core literacy.Therefore,this thesis intends to conduct an investigation and research on the cultivation of students’ cultural awareness from the perspective of core literacy.Based on the theory of constructivism,schema and intercultural communication,this thesis discusses the cultivation of cultural awareness in high school English reading teaching from the perspective of core English literacy.The main research questions are as follows:(1)What problems exist in the cultivation of students’ cultural awareness in English reading teaching based on core literacy in senior high schools?(2)What are the reasons for the problems in the cultivation of students’ cultural awareness in the teaching of English reading in senior high school based on core literacy?Based on questionnaire survey and interview method,this study conducted an in-depth study on the cultivation of cultural awareness in English reading teaching in senior high school.In this study,10 teachers and 300 students of a high school in Liaocheng City Chiping District were surveyed,and 5 teachers of a high school in Liaocheng City Chiping District were interviewed.The questionnaire survey and interview were analyzed and the following results were obtained:(1)At present,the cultivation of cultural awareness in English reading teaching of a senior high school in Liaocheng mainly has four major problems: students lack of awareness of the cultivation of cultural awareness,the lack of teaching of cultural background knowledge in reading teaching,the tendency of exam-oriented education in reading teaching,and the single method of cultural teaching.(2)It is found that the main reasons for the cultivation of cultural awareness in English reading teaching of a senior high school in Liaocheng are as follows: students are not strong in cultural learning awareness,lack of cultural knowledge reserve,and fail to develop the habit of analyzing cultural background;Teachers: neglect the teaching of cultural knowledge,lack of guidance for students’ cultural learning,utilitarian teaching objectives,single reading classroom teaching methods and outdated teaching models,teaching evaluation;School: the pursuit of traditional exam-oriented education,unreasonable arrangement of English reading class,English teaching and research group did not develop English reading culture teaching plan.The research results show that the reality of culture teaching and the training goal and curriculum standard has certain distance,therefore,in this thesis,from the perspective of students,teachers,school three suggest further promote students cultural awareness training,the purpose is to resolve the problem of cultural awareness training in high school reading teaching,improve students’ cultural awareness in language learning,Realize the goal of cultivating cultural consciousness in educational reform.
