Roger Scruton is a famous contemporary British philosopher and critic.Instead of answering the question of the nature of beauty,Scruton puts forward the seven principles of beauty and deduces beauty from them.Focusing on the operational process of aesthetic activities,he puts forward that beauty is the subject of aesthetic judgment, that beauty has a comparative level but not an important one,and that aesthetic subjects enter into aesthetic experience and aesthetic judgment on the basis of transcendent aesthetic interest and relying on imagination, and there is no indirect aesthetic. The practical forms of aesthetic judgment are divided into appreciation of nature and appreciation of art,of which the former is the most important.Scruton specifically analyzes the four categories of beauty: human beauty, natural beauty, everyday beauty and artistic beauty. As a Conservative,Scruton was also conservative about the nature of art.He inveighed against Modernity and the postmodern art, arguing that they had lost the traditional spirit of art and were undermining the sanctity of art. This paper focuses on the four relationships of art and imagination, form and content, representation and expression, art and morality, and sums up the important role of imagination in aesthetic mechanism,in artistic creation,we must insist on the unity of form and content in order to completely convey the meaning and keep the sincerity of art. This kind of sincerity can consciously show the moral value of the works of art, instead of mere moralizing and destroying the pure artistry of art.At the end of this paper, the author discusses the advantages and disadvantages of Scruton’s aesthetic conservative spirit to the present artistic creation in the context of the rapid development of modern technology.Conservative Scruton’s critique of modernity, postmodern art and culture is an important wake up call for a deconstructed, liberal society. The basic categories in his traditional philosophy, such as rationality, wholeness, wealth creation and human liberation, are just the core of artistic creation.
