A Study On Chinese Translation Of Core Terminology In English Apology Realization

Speech Act Theory,as one of the classic theories of pragmatics,has drawn sustained attention.The research on apology realization has been a heated issue for scholars in cross-cultural communication.By reading and analyzing the related research,the author finds that the scholars mainly discuss apology from two aspects.They have either researched the strategies to realize apologies or assessed the methods and tools they utilized to collect data of Apology Speech Act.A number of novel terminologies related to Apology Speech Act are put forward,yet some of their Chinese translations fail to convey their real intentions.The author analyzes four apology terminologies in order to verify the practicability of pragmatic translation theory in translating apology terminologies.The author points out the feasibility of pragmatic translation theory in translating apology terminologies,indicates the importance of carrying out research on Apology Speech Act and accurately translating related terminologies,as well as illuminates the nature of terminology translation and the inspiration for translators.The author finds that three features,accuracy,adequacy and technicality,account for the translation quality.For this very purpose,translators should master subject knowledge,bilingual and bicultural competence,as well as pragmatic competence.
