The Exploration And Practice Of Chinese Traditional Handmade Paper In Soft Sculpture Creation

Traditional Chinese handmade paper is the crystallization of the wisdom of the working people in all generations of China.Although it seems to have never entered the mainstream vision of technology and art,it has always appeared in people’s life with its warm natural texture,unique aesthetic texture and friendly visual image.Its records people’s pursuit of technological and artistic innovation from one side,carries the yearning of the ancients for a better life,and it also witnesses the journey of social development and technological progress.In the face of the rapid development of modern society and the limitations of craftsmanship,traditional Chinese handmade paper is also facing challenges like many traditional techniques,and it’s also getting weaker.However,with the development of social economy and the awakening of cultural consciousness,the voice of cultural diversity is growing louder.But when we confronted with it again with awe of traditional handicrafts,a gratifying sense of cultural identity emerges spontaneously.This is the reason why the writer is inspired to use traditional handmade paper as the research object and creative material.Through field researching and literature reading,the writer found that soft sculpture art may be a great place where the traditional handmade paper can come in.Soft sculpture is not only having the very strong inclusiveness but paying attention to the favor of unique materials,so it has both intuitive visual and rich aesthetic experience.In these aspects,the profound background and potential value of traditional handmade paper can be explored and expressed as much as possible in the process of creation.From the historical and cultural peculiarities,the aesthetic feeling of texture and plasticity of handmade paper,the writer looking for the application rules of it in the field of soft sculpture,analyzing the language characteristics and improving the artistic expression and value of handmade paper.The active development of traditional handmade paper is certainly not limited to the soft sculpture,but it must be worth exploring and making the effort by artists and relevant scholars to let more people pay attention to it and the accompanying glorious charm of aesthetic,cultural and techniques through the form of soft sculpture.This thesis is divided into six chapters.Trough fieldwork and research on the theoretical knowledge put forward by related scholars,the writer deeply studied the characteristics of handmade paper and combined with own professional background to carry out material experiments and creative practice.The first chapter describes the current situation and development direction of handmade paper,and analyzes its current value,as well as the difficulties and innovations in the research;the second chapter aims to understand the origin,development and different application forms of handmade paper;the third chapter puts forward the artistic characteristics of handmade paper materials and soft sculptures,and analyzes the art forms of paper in soft sculptures in combination with domestic and foreign art practices;the fourth chapter is based on personal experiments of practice on materials to lay the foundation for the later creation of soft sculptures;the fifth chapter starts with three themes: the natural property of handmade paper,space expansion and transmission of artistic conception.Meanwhile,it expounds the creative ideas,process and inspiration;the sixth chapter summarizes and analyzes the conclusions and prospects of this research.
