Study On Tang Xianzu’s Wenji Youcao

The first chapter is a study about Wenji Youcao’s versions.There are five kinds of editions which still exist in present age,including three versions of Ming Dynasty which are more valuable,and two of Qing Dynasty.Ming Dynasty’s versions include Xu Wei’s two volumes,Xie Tingliang’s ten volumes and Shen Jifei’s thirty eight volumes(only the first eleven volumes include Wenji Youcao).Xu Wei’s edition is the most popular one among those,Xu Shuofang’s Tang Xianzu’s Collection was based on this,but Xu Wei’s version has many errors and we need contrast between them.Xie Tingliang’s version is uncommon,but its quality is the hightest,it’s always right when different with other versions,it can help us find out some right words which Mr.Xu had missed or mistakes if we choose this as basics.Shen Jifei’s version based on Xu Wei’s one is the most poor quality among those,it correct few mistakes of Xu Wei’s,but rose more error.For purpose of having a stable research basics,we should use Xie Tlingliang’s one as master copy,proofread different words and make a reliable text.The second chapter is about Tang Xianzu’s knowledge instructure to ancient works,and knowledge’s effect on Tang’s retro roads and writing feature.I have made annotations about Wenji Youcao’s use of ancient words and literary allusion and put it in this paper’s appendix,and will use this to research Tang’s learning territory,for having a intensive study to Wenji Youcao and ancient work’s interaction.In traditional view,Tang learned the Six Dynasty most in his early age,but he actually learned Zuo Si,Jiang Yan,Xie Tiao,Cao Zhi,Xie Lingyun,Shen Yue,Lu Ji,Xiao Gang,Yu Xin,Bao Zhao,Pan Yue mainly.His learning variety influences retro roads and writing feature’s formation.Other dynasties also have a great influence on Tang’s learning though they are inferior to the Six Dynasty.With the influence of the Seven-person school and book’s limit,Tang learns Sao and Fu more than Han dynasty’s poetry.Knowledge of Tang Dynasty is influenced by the Six Dynasty’s inertia.The third chapter Tang’s reading situation in his early age.Although Wenxuan is the most important book for Tang,but Yiwenleiju,Yutaiixnyong,Wenyuanyinghua also play a essential role in Tang’s bookshelf and provide a lot of literary knowledge.Tang attach importance to ancient work’s spirit and pay little attention to its word’s intensive reading.Tang Xianzu’s use of book’s meaning is also very flexibile,for instance,he usually use sentence of Wenxuan in his own mind without refering to Liuchen”s annotation.The different way of accepting and transforming book’s meaning made Tang different with other poets who read Wenxuan also.This also influenced Tang’s knowledge instructure.In the forth chapter,we want to discuss reading approach’s influence on poets’ social intercourse and group identification through two different kinds of reading ways that Ming Dynasty’s poets use when they are reading contemporary poets’ collections.When Tang read Wang Shizhen’s articles,he sign and paint on it to identify his feature against the Seven-person school.Qian Qianyi and other literati also use this way to strengthen Tang’s character.And when Xu Wei read Tang’s Wenji Youcao,he made annotations instead,he approachs to Tang’s ideal reader and illustrate their common knowledge and literary thoughts through this kind of reading way.
