| He Ji,Wang Bai,Jin Lvxiang, and Xu Qian were four scholars in Jinhua, experiencing two dynasties from Song to Yuan Dynasty, and they were called " Four North-Mountain Scholars " in history.Following Huang Gan’s Learning Theory, they took "have a thorough study of The Four Books" as the focus of the study, and their lifelong mission to inherit Zhuzi’s studies. They were respected as the Orthodox of Confucianism by future generations. They took the interpretation of "classics" as the main means of inheriting Zhu Zi’s theory, with "four books" as the core, and extended to the study of "Five Classics" and "Four Parts",which promoted the interpretation of classics from the two paths of literature interpretation and historical textual research, and awakened the inner vitality of Neo Confucianism. This paper systematically combs the thought of "Ge Zhi Cheng Zheng" by four parts, centered on the The Great Learning. The first part introduces the era and academic background of the study of The Great Learning by Four North-Mountain Scholars. After Neo-Confucianism became an official school, its power and diversity of development and were suppressed, gradually became conservative. At this time, the focus of Neo Confucianism research has completed the transformation from the Five Classics to the Four Books, and the orientation of the Great Learning has also changed from "politics and education" to "self-cultivation".Four North-Mountain Scholars’s interpretation of the Great Learning is based on Zhu Zi’s study, and integrates the influence of Lv Zuqian and Chen Liang, which brings the study of The Great Learning into a new stage and shows the unique shape of Zhu Zi’s study in Zhejiang Province. The second part analyzes in detail that the ontological basis of "Ge Wu Zhi Zhi" lies in "Li Yi Fen Shu" and "Xing Ji Li",and Four North-Mountain Scholars’s interpretation fully shows that "Ge Wu Zhi Zhi" includes seeking objective knowledge and moral practice from the perspective of Neo Confucianism. Not only does the acquisition of knowledge focus on moral cultivation, but also moral practice is regarded as an activity of seeking knowledge and focus on practice, emphasizing the study the phenomena of nature. The third part, based on the discussion of the thought of "Cheng Yi Zheng Xin",concludes that our Four North-Mountain Scholars interpreted "Cheng Yi" by "Shen Du" and said "Zheng xin" by Chi Jing",and distinguishes that the difference between "intention" and "emotion is the beginning of heart" and "the use of heart".Therefore, the former must be "Shen Du" while the latter must be "Chi Jing".The fourth part is to understand the significance of the three principles in the Great Learning and their position in the whole system of Neo Confucianism from the relationship between "Ming Ming De","Xin Min" and "Zhi Yv Zhi Shan","Ge Wu Zhi Zhi"." Ming Ming De" is the embodiment of the ultimate goal of "Xue Yi Cheng Ren" of Neo-Confucianists,while "Xin Min" embodies the spirit of "Xia Xue Shang Da" of Confucianism.Four North-Mountain Scholars’discussion on "Ge Wu Zhi Zhi" and "Cheng Yi Zheng Xin" fully reflects the new trend of the study of Four Books in Song and Yuan Dynasties, which has changed from reciting classics to reciting Zhu",and the purpose has also changed from preaching classics" to clarifying Tao".Four North-Mountain Scholars, inherited Zhu’s thought gave lectures and apprentices, and formed a theory of their own, which not only directly influenced the development of Neo-Confucianism in Yuan and Ming Dynasties, but also hoped to use the ideological power of Neo-Confucianism to achieve the purpose of removing the customs, clearing the hearts of the people, and supporting the country. |
