Study On The Mental Health Characteristics Of Male Prisoners In A Prison In Sichuan

ObjectivePrison inmates are a special group.According to the China Statistical Yearbook(2020Edition),the number of criminal offenders is 1,428,772 in 2018 and 1,659,550 in 2019,which has remained high in recent years.The psychological problems not only affect the physical and mental health of prisoners,but also bring adverse effects on prison supervision security,which may affect national security and stability.Therefore,paying attention to the mental disease of male prisoners in prison,studying their characteristics and influencing factors,and exploring a systematic and scientific correction mode of psychological education can not only maintain the physical and mental health of male prisoners,but also provide guarantee for the safety and stability of prison supervision.This study takes the prisoners of a male prison as research subjects,analyses the mental health and influencing factors of prisoners and explores the correction mode of psychological education of male prisoners in prison,so as to provide a reference for the education reform and psychological intervention of prisoners.Methods1000 male prisoners were selected from one prison in Sichuan Province in July 2017 by cluster sampling method and were investigated by SDS,STAI,ATQ,TABP,to evaluate the depression,anxiety,automatic thoughts and type A personality of male prisoners in prison,and to analyze the relationship among depression,anxiety,type A personality and the automatic thoughts of male prison inmates.903 questionnaires were collected,and the effective rate was 90.30%.Results1.The depression characteristics of male prisoners(1)General characteristics: The positive rate of depression was 68.77%,including 6.31%of severe depression,SDS score was significantly higher than norm.(2)The depression of male prisoners showed significant differences in different ages,education,occupation,income,prison term,treatment and post.2.The anxiety characteristics of male prisoners(1)General characteristics: The positive rate of state anxiety was 86.93%,of which 19.27%was severe anxiety,the positive rate of trait anxiety was 83.06%,of which 16.95% was severe anxiety.The scores of SAI(State Anxiety Inventory)and TAI(Trait Anxiety Inventory)of male prisoners were significantly higher than the male norm.(2)The anxiety of male prisoners showed significant differences in different education,family population and prison times.3.The negative automatic thoughts characteristics of male prisoners in prisonThe negative automatic thoughts of male prisoners showing significant differences in different ages,marital status,serving time and prison times.4.The type A personality characteristics of male prisoners(1)General characteristics: The rate of type A personality of male prisoners in prison was44.93%.The CH score of male prisoners in prison was lower than that of the norm.(2)The type A personality of male prisoners showed significant differences in marital status,prison times and post.5.The relationship in depression,anxiety,type A personality and automatic thoughts of male prisonersThe scores of ATQ were positively correlated with the score of SDS,SAI,TAI and type A personality.The score of ATQ increased with the increase in depression,state anxiety,trait anxiety and type A personality.Automatic thoughts,trait anxiety and type A personality can predict depression and state anxiety.The mediating effects of automatic thoughts and trait anxiety on type A personality and depression were significant.Conclusion1.Male prisoners served obvious mental health problems.The positive rates of depression,state anxiety,trait anxiety were 68.77%,86.93%,83.06% respectively,the depression,anxiety and negative automatic thoughts showed significant differences in population characteristics.2.The depression and anxiety of prisoners in male prison were affected by automatic thoughts and type A personality.These factors should be fully considered in the implementation of psychological education correction.
