Emotion regulation plays an important role in maintenance of college students' mental health. College Students' more common sentiment have happy, exciting, nervous, anxiety, sadness and so on, their emotional state strongly, but not lasting, profound emotional experience, usually from an extreme emotional state in a short time into another extreme emotions. Previous studies have shown that a good emotional state helps to maintain physical and mental health of college students. Negative emotional state erodes the physical health of college students, at the same time, has seriously affected the normal psychological function of college students, leading to depression, anxiety and other mental illnesses,it interfers with college's normal life and study.It is particularly necessary to realize Chinese college students' characteristics of emotion regulation,analysis the mechanism that emotion regulation played in the course of depression happened,reduce the incidence of depression.Ellis believes that cognition decides the emergence of emotion,the relevant studies have shown that automatic thoughts and depression were significantly correlated.The study investigated the emotion regulation, automatic thoughts and depression of college students in the present situation, and explored the relationships among emotional regulation, automatic thoughts and depression, aimed at enriching theory and study concerning emotional regulation and automatic thoughts of college students. Provide a valuable reference for college mental health education workers to carry out psychological counseling and advice,make interventions targeted to improve the situation of college students and to enhance the positive emotional experience of them.Total 700 students from ten colleges and universities completed Emotion Regulation Scale,the Automatic Thoughts Questionnaire and Beck Depression Inventory , the relationships among emotion regulation,automatic thoughts and depression were explored.We analyze the datas using SPSS13.0 software and AMOS4.0 software, and analyze of reliability and validity,then,exploratory descriptive statistical analysis,multivariate analysis of variance, correlation analysis and regression analysis were conducted.The main findings are as follows:1 Automatic thoughts of college students appeared lower frequency;and the degree of depression appeared at a low level; emotion regulation of college students is at the middle level of the whole,in the use of two commonly used emotion regulation strategies,reappraisal strategy used in upper-middle level, and suppression strategy used in lower-middle level,this phenomenon showed that college students tend to use reappraisal strategy and avoid to use suppression strategy.2 Multivariate analysis of variance showed that, the grade main effect of reappraisal is significant, the interaction of gender,academic background and major is significant;the gender main effect of suppression is significant, gender and major interaction is significant.3 Reappraisal strategy was significant negative correlation with depression, suppression strategy and depression were significant positive correlated; for college students,the frequency of automatic thoughts and the level of depression were significantly positive correlated; Reappraisal strategy was significantly negative correlated with automatic thoughts, suppression strategy and automatic thoughts were significant positive correlated.4 Automatic thoughts plays a part of the intermediary role between suppression and depression;automatic thoughts has a direct impact on depression. Reappraisal could be a direct impact on depression,and also can indirectly affect depression through automatic thoughts,automatic thoughts plays a part of the intermediary role between suppression and depression.5 Automatic thoughts plays an entirely intermediary role in the relationship between suppression and depression.The promotion effect of suppression to depression is indirectly achieved completely through automatic thoughts.
