Abstract/Summary:
This is a report on the C-E translation practice of Jangar(Excerpts). With the improvement of our country’s comprehensive national strength, the country has paid more and more attention to the “going out” of Chinese culture.National culture is an important part of our country’s traditional cultures, and the Mongolian heroic epic is one of these treasures. The foreign translation of the Mongolian heroic epic is of great significance to the “going out” of the excellent Chinese culture. What the translator writes is a report about the translation of a Mongolian heroic epic. The original text is the mandarin version of Jangar, which was translated by Huo Ercha.By presenting this epic which has distinctive national characteristics and important cultural significance in English, the translator hopes that more people would learn China’s excellent national culture.Guiding by Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory, this translation practice analyzes the translation difficulties encountered in vocabulary, rhetoric and sentences. In terms of translating vocabulary, with the help of parallel corpora, transliteration is used as a strategy to translate names and place names;in terms of translating culture-loaded words, literal translation and annotation are adopted;in terms of rhetoric, translation methods such as domestication and foreignization are used in the translation. In the aspect of sentence pattern, the word order is adjusted to achieve the translation purpose of smoothness and clearness. This translation practice report aims to help the translator improve the translation standard and strengthen the ability of combining theory with practice.Translator analyzes the problems encountered in translation practice, and summarizes the methods and strategies of epic translation. The translator believes that epic translation needs to combine different translation strategies and methods.Translator hopes this research will provide supplementary materials for translation research in this field, and provide usable experience for other Mongolian heroic epic translation research.
