Research On Yang Songlin’s Creation Of Historical Paintings

Mr.Yang Songlin is a famous artist and art educator in China.He is still engaged in artistic creation and actively participates in various artistic activities.In his early years,Mr.Yang engaged in a wide range of art works including stage art,printmaking,new year painting,traditional Chinese painting,watercolor,oil painting and other painting practices.His oil painting involves landscape painting,figure painting and history painting.His landscape paintings frequently paint Jiaodong ocean,and his figure paintings often show fishermen’s life,exotic customs,social life and historical scenes.Mr.Yang’s historical paintings basically belong to the category of thematic creation,although the number is small,each one can reflect his artistic development state,which is his ideal and goal of stage exploration.The methods,thoughts,ideas and pursuits of his historical paintings are quite different from those of his general landscape paintings and figure paintings.Therefore,this paper attempts to make a detailed interpretation of Mr.Yang’s historical painting experience,artistic concept and creative state under the background of his personal artistic experience and the development of Chinese contemporary oil painting.This paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is an overview of the creation of Yang Songlin’s historical paintings,from the perspective of creative experience of Yang Songlin’s historical paintings,the creative concept of historical paintings and the relationship between historical paintings and other painters’ creation.It could provide a macro perspective for the audience and be more conducive to understanding his historical painting creation.The second chapter makes a general study of Mr.Yang’s early revolutionary and construction paintings.This paper calls these works the pioneers of historical painting creation.Although they are not historical paintings in the strict sense,they have laid a foundation for later historical painting creation.The third chapter mainly studies Graduation Defense.This autobiographical and witness work,with contemporary history as the theme,is the watershed of Mr.Yang’s historical painting creation.The fourth chapter mainly discusses the theme of You Wenhui.Mr.Yang created this theme twice,the first was in1999 and the second was in 2018.The theme of You Wenhui reflects the painter’s exploration of classical aesthetic value and painting form and expresses the concept of historical painting with "eternity" as its special purpose.The fifth chapter is the theme of “Sun Yat Sen”.Mr.Yang has created this theme for three times,treating a Republic-Sun Yat Sen as Interim President in 1996,Creating a Republic-Sun Yat Sen as President in 2009,and The Pioneer Sun Yat Sen Inspecting the Yellow River Bridge in2013.The mature period of Mr.Yang’s historical paintings with the theme of “Sun Yat Sen” shows the construction consciousness of spiritual value,and the ideas and creative methods contained in them have important academic value and practical significance.
