This translation project report is in the light of the symposium of Cynthia L.Estlund.On the symposium,Cynthia discusses the causes of employees’ misperception of their rights,consequences of it and possible legal measures we should take to change that misperception.Labor relation is always the hot topic in the society.Though there are many laws protecting employees’ rights,and at-will employment is declining,employers still get the interests brought by employees’ idea of job security and the interests of employment at will.The aim of this translation project is to make more people acquire more detailed information about employment laws,call for people to think highly of job security,and to provide useful suggestions for the reform of domestic labor laws.Because of the differences between American law system and domestic law system,this translation project is a tough task for the translator who knows little about legal terms at the start.For the purpose of making the readers comprehend the source text without barriers like the source language readers and pay attention to legal issues like job security,functional equivalence theory is chosen as the guideline.In the process,techniques are applied like amplification,inversion,the change of the voices,and conversion.In this translation project,the translator gets familiar with the labor laws,has a clearer awareness about legal text and accumulates basic knowledge of law.The translators need to equip themselves with adequate background knowledge,good attitude and enterprising spirit especially in legal translation if they want to pursue a better version.
