| The coverbial sentences are concerned in the Chinese grammar field,and there are many research results.Based on the previous research results,this paper analyzes the modern Chinese coverbial sentences from the cognitive pragmatic perspective,in order to describe and explain the occurrence and development of the coverbial sentences and their expression functions,and try to explore the Chinese coverbial sentences from the perspective of common human language.We find that the order of the verb structure of the preceding and the latter in the coverbial sentences is arranged according to the time of people’s perception and understanding of the objective world,which is the embodiment of the principle of the iconicity of human language time.In the process of language development,the types of coverbial sentences with different semantic connections beyond the specific time sequence are formed because of metaphor cognition.Therefore,this paper divides Chinese conjunctions into typical and atypical ones,but there is still a kind of non typical marginal conjunction sentence,which constitutes a continuum.The paper consists of five parts.The first chapter is the introduction.This paper briefly introduces the origin of the topic,determines the scope of the research object,explains the source of the corpus,and summarizes the research achievements of the previous generations of the time and the senior scholars.Chapter two is about the syntactic analysis of the modern Chinese coverbial sentences.After distinguishing the verb predicate sentence from the verb predicate sentence,the paper analyzes the syntactic characteristics and the combination relationship of VP1and VP2,and concludes the combination of VP1and VP2into four types:single verb and single verb,single verb and verb structure,verb structure and single verb structure,verb structure and verb structure.It is worth noting that there are strong and weak differences in the action of verbs in VP1and VP2:when the verbs in VP2are action verbs,the verbs in VP1are mostly state verbs,tendency verbs or"have"verbs,which shows that their mobility is decreasing.The change of verb action of VP1and VP2provides a syntactic basis for the semantic relationship between VP1and VP2.Based on the syntactic analysis of the second chapter,the third chapter systematically investigates the semantic characteristics of the conjunctions.According to the semantic relationship between the two verb structures that constitute the connection relationship,this paper divides Chinese coverbial sentences into six semantic types:time sequence,purpose relationship,causal relationship,positive and negative relationship,mode and action,hypothesis or condition and result.Interestingly,the coverbial sentences of these six semantic types can form a continuous semantic evolution based on the concept of"sequence".Chapter four explains the syntactic features and semantic types of Chinese coverbial sentences from the perspective of cognitive pragmatics.We think that the similarity of time sequence is the cognitive basis of the conjunctions.The complex and abstract semantic relations expressed by the conjunctions are the products of metaphorical cognitive mechanism.In the condition of high frequency use,it shows the tendency of grammaticalization,but the process of grammaticalization is different,which makes the modern Chinese Conjunctions present typical,atypical and marginal conjunctions.The fifth chapter is the conclusion,summarizes the work and innovation of this paper,and puts forward the idea of further research in the future. |
