| The source text of this translation practice report is selected from a popular science book called Weird Weather.The book introduces the readers the strange phenomena of the vast universe from an astronomical point of view.This translation task mainly focuses on the first two chapters of the book,which explain the appearance of the Milky Way and the reason why our Earth is suitable for us.The source text belongs to science and technology text,which has many long sentences.Besides,being multiplied by other grammatical components,those long sentences form the complicated sentences.Among them,there are a large number of long sentences with parenthesis,which serve as functions of explanation,supplement,connection,and expressing the author’s attitude in the text,and we should pay special attention to them in the translation practice.Therefore,under the guidance of Reiss’ s Text Type Theory and with a focus on the informative function of science and technology text,this report concerns a variety of translation methods,such as embedding,amplification,conversion,recasting,cutting,and reversing to deal with those long sentences with parenthesis so as to better explore the translation strategies of science and technology text.The report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,which briefly summarizes the selected translation text.The second chapter mainly expounds the process of translation practice,including pre-translation,in-translation and post-translation.The third chapter focuses on the main theoretical framework of this practice report,including Text Type Theory and the main characteristics of science and technology text.Chapter four explores the translation methods of four types of parenthesis in science and technology text,and discusses the translating methods with specific examples through case analysis.Chapter five summarizes the translation project and points out the shortcomings in the translation practice. |
