Few studies are put forward on the use of modal particle "Ne" and gender differences in China so far.Nevertheless, the study on the its function in different moods and contexts, can help people preferably choose conversational strategies and achieve conversational goals.Based on the stages of modern Chinese history divided by Diao Yanbin,24 scripts are selected in this paper, with 2197 "Ne" sentences are extracted exhaustively, from 1919 to1949,1949 to 1976,and 1978 to the present.Meanwhile, analysis methods of social statistics will be combined to perform chi-square test, correlation coefficient comparison and binary logistic regression analysis on corpus data. This paper is divided into five parts:The first part is the introduction. This article mainly introduces the current research status of the particle of "Ne" in China and the basis and significance of this article’s topic selection, specifically explains the source, theoretical basis and research methods of the corpus in this article. The classification of the particle "Ne" in this paper refers to Qi Huyang’s(2002)six inductions on the grammatical meaning and usage of the modern Chinese particle "Ne".The second part analyzes the gender differences in the use of the modal particle "Ne".It can be seen that the writer’s gender, dialects, and time background all have different degrees of influence on the gender difference in the use of "Ne".And the gender difference in the rhetorical and interrogative sentences is particularly significant. The third part is a typical analysis of the particle "Ne".From the scripts of male and female writers, the scripts with the highest frequency of male and female characters were extracted for specific analysis. It can be concluded that only in the rhetorical and interrogative tone, the gender of the author and the gender of the role will affect the relationship at the same time, and the male is more likely to use "Ne" because the recipient is a female. In the exclamatory tone, both men and women are more inclined to use "Ne" for the opposite sex.The fourth part analyzes the causes of gender differences in the use of the modal particle "Ne".This chapter mainly demonstrates the reasons for the gender differences in the use of the modal particle "Ne" from three aspects: factors affecting the correlation of independent variables and conversational strategies. The fifth part is the conclusion. The main conclusion of this article is that the author’s time background, author’s gender, dialect attributes and role gender will all affect the use of the modal particle "Ne".The gender difference between men and women using "Ne" is prominently reflected in the tone of retort and interrogation.Among them, men are more likely to use "Ne" because the recipient is a woman."Ne" is a feminine tone. The main innovation of this article is that the selected corpus includes the new script of the 21 st century, the referenced independent variables are more multidimensional, and the research methods are statistically significant.
