Legend of Sword and Fairy is a role-playing computer game released by SOFTSTAR Entertainment Inc in 1995 with elements of Chinese mythology as the creative background.Its 98 Tenderness Edition was popular since it entered the mainland market,has become a classic and unforgettable childhood memory in the hearts of the 80 s and 90 s.As the story text of a role-playing game,the script of the Legend of Sword and Fairy presents features such as interactivity,multi-linearity,and immersion.In the adaptation of TV plays and drama,the script characteristics have changed from game to story.On the basis of screenplay theory,this article analyze the script of Legend of Sword and Fairy in three versions of game,TV plays and drama from the perspective of characters,conflicts,plots,and scenes,and finally provide strategies and suggestions for the game adaptation.The introduction briefly introduces the characteristics of the game version of the Legend of Sword and Fairy,cites the concept of game IP adaptation,expounds the current research status of game script adaptation at home and abroad,focusing on the narrative transformation between different artistic genres,and then from the perspective of screenplay theory,analyze the strategy of writing adaptation.Chapter One discusses the changes from game characters to drama characters from three aspects of character setting,character development,and situation that characters live.From the perspective of character setting,adaption illustrates a trend of characteristics transformation from genre to typical character.As for the character development,there is a transformation from upgrading development of game character to growth development from appearance to heart of drama character.In the situation where the characters live,a real external fictional environment is constructed,increases the complexity of the character’s environment,and highlights the dramatic characters from the side.Chapter Two discusses the changes of conflicts before and after the adaptation,from the simple conflict in the game to the complex conflict in TV plays and dramas.It deeply excavates the inner conflicts of the characters from different stages including establishment,concentration,and development.It also constructs conflicts between different characters,which are reflected in three aspects including relationship,character and action.And finally it enriches the conflicts between characters and noncharacters,with dividing them into non-living objects,animals,and ghosts,and then fully achieves the complication of conflicts.Chapter Three,the plot changes from mission-based to action-based.The missiondriven game plot is adapted into TV plays and drama driven by the goals and wills of the characters.The action also changes from scattered to concentrated.Multiple changes take place in the narrative method of the plot,which includes narrative sequence,narrative structure,and narrative perspective.Chapter Four introduces the changes in scenes from games to TV plays and drama.The game is mainly based on text narratives,after the adaptation,the dialogues of the characters,the line information,and the text prompts are all displayed on a scene.Regarding the game situation,the drama scenes are adapted by quoting,expanding,and recreating.The unique battle scenes,maze scenes and interactive interfaces in the game are all presented in varying degrees of drama.Conclusion review and analyze the Legend of Sword and Fairy game,TV plays,and drama,and propose the required dramatic characteristics of game suitable for adaptation.While maintaining the balance between commerciality and artistry,try to meet the expectations of game fans and ordinary audiences as much as possible. |
