With the deepening of economic globalization,the scope of China foreign trade is becoming larger and larger.China automobile industry grows rapidly in recent years.It has great advantages in technology and product performance.And the export volume also increases day by day.Therefore,the translation of automobile technical text has become an important part of foreign trade in automobile industry.The internship company commissions the translator to translate the automobile technical text,X Automotive Operation Manual.This text includes the running-in,starting and stopping of the vehicle,the use of the vehicle and the use of the cab.X Automotive Operation Manual has a clear purpose,which is to transmit the operation information to guide foreign terminal customers to use the vehicle.So the translation should be accurate,intelligible and concise,which is particularly important for target readers.This translation practice is guided by Skopos theory,which is put forward by Vermeer.Under the direction of Skopos theory,this translation is aimed at conveying operation information and realizing the guiding function of the target text.This report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter describes mainly the translation task,introducing the translation project and the significance and requirements of the translation project briefly.And it also introduces the structure of the translation report.The second chapter represents the translation process mainly,which describes three stages of work,before translation,while translation and after translation.The third chapter introduces the Skopos theory adopted in this translation project and its three principles:Skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule concisely.Based on Skopos theory,the fourth chapter advances six translation strategies for vocabulary,sentence and discourse in X Automotive Operation Manual,namely literal translation,free translation,combination,division,addition and omission in order to achieve the expected translation function.The last chapter concludes the translation project,from which the translator has got translation experience.Besides,the translator also points out some limitations and proposes suggestions for future translation.Through the study of the translation project,the translator analyzes the stylistic features of X Automotive Operation Manual.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,specific translation strategies are summarized.Thus,the translation not only conveys the information of the source text,but also helps to realize the purpose of the translation.Meanwhile,it is hoped that this report can provide some references for future automobile manual translation.
