English reading is a very important means for students to obtain information for learning,which plays an important role in English learning and life.Therefore,improving students’ reading ability is of great significance to help students fully use the language and deeply understand the world.As an important part of language skills,English reading also plays a very important role in English teaching.However,it is worrying that there are still many problems in teachers’ English reading teaching in junior high school,such as the old-fashioned way,paying too much attention to vocabulary,grammar or reading results in reading teaching.These problems lead to students’ lack of interest in reading,and students’ fear of difficulties in English learning,which is not conducive to the improvement of students’ reading ability and the development of thinking.Improving students’ reading ability is a difficult task for most English teachers.In order to improve the current situation of English reading teaching in junior high school,this study applies the problem chain to English reading teaching in junior high school.According to the problem chain,teachers combine the problems and situations based on certain teaching objectives and all aspects of teaching,and present them to the students one by one in a hierarchical,orderly,logical and creative way,so as to cultivate the students’ thinking quality.This study adopts the method of action research,and constantly improve their own classroom teaching in action research,combined with the actual situation of the class English classroom,through continuous reflection and improvement in the research process,in order to achieve the purpose of improving English reading teaching.The whole action research lasted about half a year,and the research objects were 50 students in class 30 of grade two.Action research is divided into three rounds: the first round is the trial and exploration stage of problem chain to promote students’ English reading ability,mainly to explain how the problem chain is applied in reading teaching;the second round is the adjustment and improvement stage,mainly according to the use of problem chain in English reading teaching in junior high school,to improve the teaching scheme,cultivate students’ autonomous learning ability.The third round of action research is the stage of improvement and application.According to the second stage,a series of problems in the application of problem chain to English reading teaching in junior high school are reflected and improved,and the improved teaching is actively applied in further reading teaching.Finally,after three rounds of action research,the whole research results are discussed and summarized.The main findings are as follows:1.Through action research,the problem chain is applied to English reading teaching in junior high school,and students’ English fast reading comprehension ability is improved.2.Through action research,after the English reading teaching based on the problem chain,it is found that students’ comprehensive inference ability of English reading has been improved.3.Through action research,after the English reading teaching based on the problem chain,students are more interested in reading.At the same time,students’ creative thinking is stimulated and developed.
