The Small Private Online Course(SPOC)blended teaching model combines both online teaching and classroom teaching,using various online videos and reading materials to encourage students to learn.Moreover,the SPOC blended teaching model has been implemented in different fields or other disciplines,and good teaching results have been achieved.The National English Curriculum Standards(2017)has clear requirements for students’ writing ability.English writing competence is one of the important skills in comprehensive English abilities.In this case,the SPOC blended teaching mode can be introduced into high school English writing teaching to meet the needs and requirements of educational reform and development.This research is based on the theory of constructivist learning theory,combined with the cognitive theory of multimedia learning,and explores the SPOC blended teaching mode in the teaching of English writing in high school.This research mainly aims to answer the following three questions: 1.What is the effect of SPOC blended teaching mode on students’ learning attitudes towards English writing? 2.What is the effect of SPOC blended teaching mode on students’ English writing strategies? 3.Whether the SPOC blended teaching mode can improve senior high school students’ writing competence?In order to answer the above three questions,the research is conducted via a threemonth experimental survey in a key high school in Chengdu.This senior high school has lunched online learning and teaching during the pandemic.Therefore,online learning and teaching will not be a problem for students in senior high school.The experimental subjects include 45 students in the control group and the experimental group respectively,for a total of 90 students.The experiment included a three-month use of SPOC blended teaching model for English writing teaching in the experimental group,while the use of general English writing teaching practice in the control group,pre-test and post-test of English writing ability,pre-questionnaire,post-questionnaire and interview.Through the author’s own SPOC blended mode teaching of English writing,pre-class preparation and classroom teaching,the author has a deep feeling about whether the SPOC blended teaching mode can be used for high school English writing teaching.After analyzing and summarizing the experimental data using IBM SPSS Statistics,the main findings of this study are as follows: 1.By the learning of English teaching in SPOC blended teaching mode,most students start to like English writing and realize that the purpose of English writing is not just for examinations and students have improved their learning attitude;2.SPOC blended teaching mode for high school English writing teaching has played a positive role,improving students’ writing strategies and learning ability;3.SPOC blended teaching mode has a positive impact on students’ English writing competence and students’ writing scores have been improved at the end of the experiment.Based on the above findings,this research puts forward some tentative suggestions for the teaching of English writing in high school,hoping to give some enlightenment to related research and provide some suggestions for the teaching of English writing in high school.
