A Report On The Translation Of Arts Therapies In The Treatment Of Depression(Excerpt) From The Perspective Of The Skopos Theory

This paper is a translation report,which selects the first and second chapters of the book Arts Therapies in the Treatment of Depression as the source text to do EnglishChinese translation.As a medical text,this book contains a large number of terminologies,covering many categories,such as medicine,psychology,psychiatry,and so on.These terminologies will undoubtedly cause reading barriers for ordinary readers.There are also many complex sentences and long sentences in the source text.These sentences are complicated in structure,and their logic is quite different from that of Chinese sentences,so the readability of the target text is bound to be greatly reduced.In addition,some expressions in the source text are too repetitive,which is not conducive to the harmony and unity of the concise style of the full text.In view of these problems,the translator chooses skopos theory as the guiding theory,annotates the terminologies in the text,explains their connotations,and makes the translation easy to understand.And the long sentences and complex sentences in the source text are reorganized according to Chinese logic to make the target text more coherent and fluent.In addition,the translation method of omission is adopted to solve the problem of repeated expression so that the overall style of the translation is consistent with that of the source text.It is hoped that through this translation practice,a qualified translation can be provided to the ordinary readers,so that the public can have a further understanding of depression as well as the non-drug treatment art therapy,so as to accumulate practical translation experience and provide reference for translators studying such texts in the future.
