The first chapter of Winning the Long Game, written by Paul J.H.Schoemaker and Steven Krupp was selected as the source text to make an E-C translation.Based on real events and cases in which executives coordinate these conflicting priorities,it illustrates how to successfully deal with dilemmas in business life. Its target audience is the general public, and it is highly inspirational. The book is a management text, characterized by instruction and persuasion. Its words are simple and literary and the sentence pattern is concise and coherent. This translation report is guided by the theory of Translation as Adaptation and Selection. The Translation as Adaptation and Selection proposed by Professor Hu Gengshen emphasizes that under the guidance of the principle of “multi-dimensional adaptation and adaptive selection”,the translators must not only adapt to the translation ecological environment but also focus on the three dimensions of language, culture, and communication. The characteristics of the source text have been analyzed from three aspects includes the lexical, syntactic, and discourse features. The translation difficulties have been summarized as well. Then, the adaptive transformations from linguistic, cultural, and communicative dimensions have been discussed and demonstrated.Under the guidance of the theory of Translation as Adaptation and Selection, translation methods have been utilized by the translator such as conversion, omission, free translation, and so on,to accomplish transformations from linguistic, cultural, and communicative levels and solve translation difficulties.Strive to adaptation and selection between the source text and the target language have, thus deeper understand and better standardize the expressions of the target language, and easily be acceptable by target readers.Through the report, the translator hopes that reference and inspiration can be provided for translators who translate this kind of book.
