The book Translating Law written by Deborah Cao is an academic work about legal translation. From the aspects of linguistics, law, and translation, this book expounds on the vocabulary, style of writing, and culture in legal language as well as the translator’s ability and some important matters in legal translation. It is a masterpiece with both theoretical value and practical guidance. This translation project is Chapter Seven of the book and the topic is about the translation of international legal instruments. The report is divided into four parts, including task description, process description, case analysis, and conclusion. The translation practice is done in conformity with the principles of academic translation and legal translation.Meanwhile, under the guidance of Zhao’s “four bridges model”,particularly the“linguistic bridge”,the difficulties and solutions in the translation process are discussed from the aspects of lexis, syntax as well as logic.Through this translation practice, the translator can better understand the technicality of the translation of international legal instruments and the importance of the interpretation and application of texts when drafting and translating multilingual documents.More importantly, readers can reflect on the prospect of legal translation under the multilingual system so that they will constantly improve their professionalism.Besides, readers might be able to get familiar with and use relevant assistant tools to deal with the translation of multilingual texts. Finally, the translator hopes to provide some experience and reference for other legal translation practitioners when translating such legal scholarly works in the future.
