With the in-depth development of globalization,mankind has increasingly become an inseparable community of destiny.With the aim to realize cooperation and sharing of human knowledge,it needs to promote the continuous exchange and integration of international education in the world.With the further expansion opening to the outside world of Chinese education,the global mobility of higher education students has become increasingly frequent.Among them,language ability is not only an important communication medium and means for undergraduate international exchanges students in cross-cultural experience and practice,but also an important recessive cultural capital.This research takes university undergraduate international exchange students as the research object,exploring the performance characteristics of their English language ability changes in the practice of cross-cultural learning,analyzing the impact of language ability on their cross-cultural learning effects.This research can not only provide guidance for the reform of college English education and teaching,but also can help improve the quality and effect of cross-cultural learning of undergraduate international exchange students.Therefore,it has important research practical significance.This research paper is divided into seven chapters.First,through the literature research method,it will analyze the relevant research overview,main concepts,theoretical basis and analysis framework about changes of English ability on international exchange students.Secondly,through a questionnaire survey,the subjective feelings and self-perceived performance of the changes in English ability of international exchange students are analyzed,which is combined with the analysis of grounded theory,the basic characteristics of the changes in English ability of international exchange students are comprehensively formed;Next,using a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods to explore the factors that affect the changes in English ability of our international exchange students.Thirdly,by coding the interview data to explore the impact of changes in English proficiency on the cross-cultural learning effects on undergraduate international exchange students;Finally,from three aspects of goal,content and approach,suggestions on strategies for improving the English proficiency of Chinese international exchange students are put forward.Through empirical investigation and analysis,it is found that in the cross-cultural learning of undergraduate international exchange students,English learning ability changes>cross-cultural English ability changes>English core ability changes;there are significant differences in five aspects:gender,countries of cross-border migration,purpose of migration,duration of migration and original English proficiency.In addition,the English cognitive ability and comprehensive ability of Chinese international exchange students have been significantly improved;they pay more attention to actively learning English through the "immersion" method;language communication skills gradually change from cowardice to confidence,which reflects the individual differences and imbalances,indirectness,gradualness in the changes of English ability.At the same time,the study found that the subjective factors affecting Chinese international exchange students English ability changes are learning motivation,learning attitude,learning strategy,learning initiative and interpersonal skills.Objective factors include cross-border exchange time,frequency of English use,dynamic evaluation of foreign universities,foreign social support,different professional categories,original English proficiency and English exposure degree.At the same time,special factors such as the introverted character and "group effect" of international exchange students,foreign cultural elements and the new crown epidemic are also factors that cannot be ignored that affect international exchange students English ability changes.Through research,it is found that English ability changes of international exchange students have an impact on their cross-cultural learning effects.On the one hand,it enables them to gain a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment in cross-cultural learning,helping them experience multiculturalism and freshness and enhancing their cross-cultural self-efficacy.On the other hand,exchange students still have regrets about cross-cultural English learning,they occasionally feel frustrated and helpless.Based on the current reality of undergraduate international exchange students’ English ability development,first of all,from the improvement goal,it is necessary to improve the access standards of English ability,establishing a dynamic evaluation system of English ability,improving English support and service system for exchange students.Secondly,in terms of improving content,colleges and universities should build a unique curriculum system,simulating the English teaching environment,organizing mutual learning groups and optimizing the construction of teaching team.Last but not least,international exchange students need to improve their English ability by enhancing English learning motivation,improving self-identity and adaptability and cherishing cross-cultural learning opportunities.
