This translation practice report analyzes and summarizes the process of translation of the work of British children’s literature The 1000-year-old Boy(excerpts)under the guidance of Skopos Theory.The report focuses on the study of the translation methods and techniques used to achieve the translation purposes and effects.Besides,it also verifies the feasibility and applicability of applying Skopos Theory to the English-Chinese translation of the work of children’s literature.Through the above discussion and analysis,the author expects that it would provide references for the future study of this research area.In the process of translation,as the source text is a work of children’s literature,the author,on the basis of the textual,semantic and stylistic analysis of the source text,chooses the Skopos Theory as the guiding theory for the whole translation process.By flexibly using the translation methods of lexical derivation,restructure,division,etc.the author aims to fulfill the purposes of translation practice of being faithful to the source text,clear and easy to understand and in line with the reading habits and cognitive level of the target readers.Through this translation practice,the author expects to explore the applicability of the Skopos Theory to guide the E-C translation of the work of children’s literature.Therefore,this translation practice report mainly adopts the case study method.Some typical cases are selected in the translation,which could be classified into vocabulary translation cases,sentences translation cases and discourses translation cases.By detailed analysis of the difficulties in these cases,the translation skills applied as well as the translation effects,the author verifies the feasibility and applicability of Skopos Theory to guide the E-C translation of the work of children’s literature.
