A Report On The E-C Translation Of Conclave Conspiracy Guided By Relevance Theory Of Translation(Excerpts)

Conclave Conspiracy tells that a catholic layman,Mr.Flahvin,was elected as the Pope and eventually he was murdered by his opposition.Numerous dialogues help to create distinctive characters,and readers’ thoughts move around different contexts following the characters’ dialogues.To proper translate the dialogues in this novel will allow the readers of translation version to get closer to the original.through reading the translation version,they will feel like being on the real scene.Gutt extended Relevance Theory to translation field,and formed Relevance Translation Theory.The main idea of Relevance Translation Theory concludes that translation is a kind of linguistic communicative action,ostensive and inferential process which needs the cooperation of the translator’s brain mechanism.By using literature research and case study methods,this report studys the dialogue translation of lexical level,sentence level and language style in Conclave Conspiracy(excerpts)guided by Relevance Translation Theory.Conclusions are drawn.The writing intention and cognitive context of Relevance Translation Theory helps to convey the implicit meaning of dialogues and reproduce language style of the original text;OstensiveInference rule is able to guide translator’s brain mechanism process in translation;the principles of optimal relevance and contextual effect are able to verify the quality of the translation.Amplification,Conversion,Omission,Division and other translation techniques should be adopted for the translation of dialogues.The writer hopes to enrich translation experiences in order to master fiction’s translation.In the mean time,providing the perspective of translation study,providing theoretical enlightenment and methodological reference for later translators.
