| Different from other art forms,traditional Chinese landscape painting focuses on creating infinite space of artistic conception and vision in the limited picture space.As an artist and theorist in Song Dynasty,Guo Xi is well-known for being influential and innovative in the field of traditional Chinese painting.In his work collection “Linquan Gaozhi” Guo created a painting method called "San Yuan",which means that there can be several different perspectives to show how high-reaching,far-reaching and flatreaching of the scenery within one painting.This method has a profound influence on Chinese traditional landscape paintings as well as contemporary Chinese landscape paintings,appreciated and respected by Chinese artists of all generations.He pointed out that picture space is a combination of "meaning" in subjective category and "context" in objective category through the concepts of “walk-able”,“see-able”,“travel-able” and “livable”."The heart of Linquan",mentioned in the book,is a symbol of the significance of life and a model of aesthetic space.Additionally,four ways of expression,named “thread,brush,ink and dye”,have a certain influence on the sense of space of paintings.Guo’s great art theory combined with practice of painting techniques provides endless inspiration for later artists and has an active and farreaching impact on the drawing,context and types of expression in modern Chinese landscape paintings as well as the awareness of creation of artists of all generations.Guided by Guo’s concept of space in traditional Chinese landscape paintings,the author made a deep exploration in the composition of a picture,expression of skills and aesthetic taste in painting,analyzing the influence of this concept on her own work.Based on this concept,the author will combine the method with modern techniques of expression and carry out practice in the field of South Landscape Painting. |
