The scholars around the world have been carried out the study of Chinese ancient glass beads for decades,and a number of achievements have enhance the understanding of Chinese ancient material culture.Their work has accumulated mass data and it requires a dedicated database to store them.The construction of “Chinese Ancient Glass Beads Database” could be divided into two parts.The first one is to collect data from archaeological reports and scientific analysis reports.These data covers the factors such as dynasty,location,amount and content.The second part is application development features.GIS,My SQL or SPSS would be included in the database.These functions proved it is effective to assist scholar’s work.This paper would state an issue regarded to the relationship of jade-like lead barium glass and ancient Chinese society.Jade-like lead barium glass is recognized as Chinese indigenous artefact.It was emerged in the Warring States and disappeared in the ending of the Han Dynasty.This study focus on the lead barium glass artefacts excavated in China and explains how the aesthetics and utilities of this material was affected by indigenous jade culture.Most of jade-like glass artefacts have its origins of real jade artefacts.Mature technology and mass production of jade-like glass made it possible to be substitutes of jade artefacts,it was adopted by elite and commoner as symbols of social status to be buried with them.The flourishing and decline of jade-like glass artefacts coincided with the development of jade culture,the significant change from its final decline implied the shifting burial customs of luxurious goods to simple goods,the attitudes of people towards jade had shifted and jade artefacts evolved into new shapes to adapt the trends of secularization after Han Dynasty.
