Practice Report On E-C Translation Of Livingstone’s Tribe:A Journey From Zanzibar To The Cape(Excerpts)

This translation practice report is based on the translation of Livingstone’s Tribe: a Journey from Zanzibar to the Cape,a narrative travel book about the author’s Journey from the capital of Tanzania to the Cape of Good Hope in Africa,exploring the survival of the white people left over from British colonialism in the early 20 th century and providing some cases for the translation of narrative travel books.The content of the works is mainly based on narration,supplemented by lyricism.Therefore,the author tries to take Tytler’s three principles of translation as a theoretical guide.According to the characteristics and styles of narrative travel works,the author makes a combination of foreignization and domestication to complete the translation practice report and modifies the translation with Tytler’s theory in the end.In the process of writing this report,the author mainly adopts the methods of literature review and case study under the guidance of Tytler’s three principles of translation,which integrates with typical cases to make a detailed analysis,such as addition,shift,division and combination,etc.Finally,the author concludes that Tytler’s principles are applicable to the translation of narrative travel books.In addition,during the study and summary of this translation practice,the author aims to explore some applicable translation strategies and provides new ideas for the translation of narrative travel works.Meanwhile,there are a great deal of messages about geography,human history,religious belief and customs of Africa in this original text,which is expected to make a valuable exploration on the translation study of narrative travel works from a cultural perspective.
