In this pater,the concept of rhythmic vitality,one of the Six Methods proposed b y Xie He has been simply described.It is the core of the Six Methods Theory,which h as been regarded as the the highest criteria in ancient Chinese painting.The paper is divided into four chapters.In the first chapter,the concept of the Six Methods Theory is described.In the second chapter,the concept of qi,artistic concep tion,vivid and rhythmic vitality are respectively interpreted from the perspective of C onfucianism,Buddhism and Taoism.Besides,they have also been analyzed in combin ation with historical figures.In the third chapter,the artists who been influenced by th e concept of rhythmic vitality and their works are listed.We will analyze the changing thoughts of the painters in later ages and its extended significance.In the fourth chapt er,the guiding significance of the concept of rhythmic vitality for the landscape painti ng and the progress of the will also been analyzed.The concept of rhythmic vitality has a deep influence on the later ages,which pla ys an important role in the guidance of the creative work.It is necessary to investigate and study its essence.
