Being a popular and typical dance during the Han Dynasty(206 BC-AD 220),the pangu dance is of high research value,and therefore the author situatesthe pangu dance originally carved on the stone reliefs of the Han Dynasty as the very object of study.Examiningpiles of relevant ancient literature andapplying to linguistic research methods,the author analyzed a number of rubbings of unearthed Han Dynasty stone reliefsagainst the historical background and religious culture of Han Dynasty.From the pespective of body languageof dance,the author has conducted an in-depth analysis of the context of the times,the body language coding and decoding of pangu dance of Han Dynasty:Firstly,starting from,on the one hand,the social context of Han Dynasity,including its politics,economy,culture,and its exchangeswith the Western Regions,and,on the other hand,the existing theories of Taoism,the heaven-human induction theories,and the theories of yin-yang and five elements,the author has diachronically disucssed the formation of the body language of pangu dance.Secondly,focusing on the existing ancient books andrelated picures,the author has discussed the coding of body language information of pangu dance by probing deeply into the movements of each part the body,the costumes,and the acting scenes.Thirdly,taking the three most typical pictures of pangu dance as examples and with the help of the ancient books,the author has decoded the body language information of pangu dance,including the signifiers of body movements,the costumes,and the acting scenes,as well as the signified of their religious meaning,the worshipsignificance,and the consubstantiality of gods andhuman beings.Pangu dance was unique in the Han Dynasty.Its body language information has provided artistic and far-reaching influence on the use of dance props,such as drums and scarf sleeves.It also has profound influences on the nimble footwork and dance images of later ages.
