The translation report takes the non-fictional text titled Why Meadow Died: The People and Policies That Created the Parkland Shooter and Endanger America ’s Students as the source text,which analyzes the causes and consequences of the Parkland shooting from the perspectives of a victim’s father,educators and policy makers,and discusses various thoughts on juvenile delinquency.The translator takes Chapter Nine and Chapter Ten as the original text to translate in order to show the target readers the multiple causal factors behind the shooting.This report is non-fictional text and is translated under the guidance of Skopos theory by using translation methods including annotation,conversion,repetition,amplification,extension and division.The purpose of the translation report is to demonstrate the applicability of Skopos theory in nonfictional text so as to enrich the text types of translation under the guidance of Skopos theory.Guided by the three principles of Skopos theory proposed by Hans J.Vermeer,this report discusses the translation strategies and methods applied in translations by analyzing examples,and analyzes the advantages and shortcomings of different translations according to the linguistic features,text type and the cultural context of the text and discusses how to choose translation methods to translate non-fictional texts according to the three rules of Skopos theory.Translation of this non-fictional text make the target readers understand the relevant cross-cultural concepts and simultaneously conforms to the original text to the language habits and aesthetic requirements of the target text.
