"Dissatisfaction" speech act,as a kind of conflict-type social phenomenon,often occurs in our daily communication.This thesis resorts to a number of relevant theories,including system-functional linguistics,speech act,and face-saving,and uses a variety of research methods,such as questionnaires,interviews,and data analysis,to conduct a multi-dimensional study on "dissatisfaction" speech acts.The main content includes the following four aspects:1.Based on the previous research related to the present study,the concept of dissatisfaction is explained,the definition of dissatisfaction speech act is provided,the constituent elements of dissatisfaction speech act are revealed,and the functional items of dissatisfaction are reviewed.Analyzing the definition of "dissatisfaction"speech act by comprehensive analysis,the author extracts the commonalities and defines "dissatisfaction" speech act as "a series of negative emotions given by conflicts due to face threats or loss of interests in social communication.2.Investigation and analysis are conducted of Chinese dissatisfaction speech acts for comparative purposes.First,the author’s survey design is explained;secondly,the survey on Chinese dissatisfaction speech acts has produced data for analysis from three aspects: implementation strategies,expression means,and manifestations;and five social factors that influence the implementation of Chinese dissatisfaction speech acts have been examined.The influence of each social factor is analyzed in detail.3.A multi-faceted investigation and analysis on the dissatisfaction speech behavior on the part of international students have been conducted.First,a brief description is offered of the investigation process.Secondly,a detailed analysis is carried out of the strategies,methods of expression,and expressions of dissatisfaction by foreign students,which are analyzed based on the data of the influence of the five social factors.Thirdly,verbal behaviors of dissatisfaction at home and abroad are comparatively analyzed.4.A more detailed error analysis is carried out on the dissatisfaction speech act of foreign students,an in-depth interpretation is conducted of the Road to Success as teaching materials for Chinese as a foreign language.Based on the data analysis of the questionnaires,and in combination with the analysis of the aforementioned textbook,teaching suggestions are offered for the three different subjects of the textbo ok,the teacher and the learner.
