Abstract/Summary:
The reign of Tang Dezong Li Kuo coincided with the predicament of many vassals in the Tang Dynasty after the An-Shi Rebellion, and strong neighbors from outside. As the third-generation monarch who succeeded after the An-Shi Rebellion, various internal affairs systems and peripheral ethnic relations are in urgent need of reform.Internal affairs are highly related to external aggressions, and the changes in internal policies have correspondingly affected the thinking and strategies for communicating with neighboring vassals at that time.Chronologically, this paper takes the changes in the four regimes of Tang-Bo,Tang-Hui,Tang-Zhao,and Bo-Zhao as the main line, starting from the main events and key figures involved, revealing the relationship between the internal affairs and diplomacy of the various regimes, and the historical trend of the two political powers benefiting from cooperation and hurting both when they are divided. The adjustment of the Tang government’s foreign national policy depends firstly on the understanding of the situation and the national concept of the upper echelons of the Tang Dynasty, and secondly,it is closely related to changes in the current situation.During this period, the relationship between the Tang government and the neighboring national regimes and the neighboring national regimes changed. The key factors still depend on the growth and decline of the power of each regime and the stability of its internal affairs. At the beginning of Dezong’s accession to the throne, due to a miscalculation of the domestic situation,he wanted to establish his power and strengthen centralization of power.Instead,he triggered a mutiny in the vassal. This not only caused internal political turmoil, but also caused him to relocate twice, and even fell into a life-and-death situation.Dangerous situation.Dezong’s 25-year reign seems to have mediocre political achievements. However, after studying historical literature and examining the various challenges faced by the Tang Dynasty at that time,Dezong not only adjusted internal and external relations in a timely manner in order to stabilize the country, but also handled ethnic relations in unique way.At the beginning,he wanted to secure the country by appropriate measures,so he changed the ethnic policy of the Su and Dai emperors and tried to take the initiative to unite Tubo westward to stabilize the northern frontier. From the deployment of troops to defeat the military governors,he accepted the minister’s suggestion and his own national outlook changed. In the end,the prejudices and long-standing grudges against Huihe were discarded, and the ethnic policy of unite Uyghur of North,Nanzhao in the South, and unite Arabian Empire was formed in the end to unite neighboring neighbors to besiege Tubo.During this period,Dezong’s original intention to stabilize all over the world, consolidate the imperial power, and strengthen internal control over the feudal town remained unchanged.Looking at the evolution of the relationship between the Dezong Dynasty and the neighboring regimes after the An-Shi Rebellion,it can be seen that internal affairs and diplomacy are closely linked;in addition, the northern vassal powers in the Tang Dynasty at that time, out of self-interest considerations,or privately with neighboring ethnic forces. The collusion with each other made the ethnic relations more complicated and unpredictable during this period, and further depleted the Tang Dynasty’s already declining national power and prestige.
