| Women are an important part and driving force of China’s historical development and social changes, and they have their own sense of independence and values. As an irresistible external force, the famine has destroyed the original living environment and family structure of women in its crude and direct way. While women use their own strength to deal with the famine, the famine also indirectly promotes the development of women’s liberation and power awareness in this destruction.Throughout previous studies, the psychological changes of women in famines and women’s awareness of participating in politics arising from disaster relief activities need to be further explored. This article takes the female perspective as the starting point to discuss the female psychological activities, changes in behavior patterns and their social influences in the background of the famine in Shanxi in the late Qing Dynasty. The all text is divided into three sections. The first part is the female picture of Ding Wuqi under the barrenness. The first is the exploration of the living conditions and living background of Shanxi women before the famine.Looking at the Shanxi region in the Taiping years,it is not difficult to find that when men go out for business so commonly, there is a very strong concept of women’s fierceness in society.Coupled with the influence of vulgar customs such as drowning and foot binding, the shackles imposed on Shanxi women by society at that time were very heavy. The second is to sort out the various situations and measures of how women respond to the famine. Some women choose to end their lives in order to preserve their innocence in the troubled times, but it is because of the strong climate of festivals in Shanxi.Other women have changed their original concepts and behavior patterns under the special background of disasters.Either going out to help,or surviving on their own,or being forced to sell to human traffickers, whether active or passive changes, have had a certain impact on the Shanxi region after the disaster. The second part is about the changes in the social environment after the disaster.During this period, missionaries entered Shanxi for disaster relief and brought women’s schools to Shanxi, laying the foundation for Shanxi women to receive education in the future. The arrival of the famine also made the Little Feet Women have no ability to survive and protect themselves from the famine. The lessons of blood triggered people’s reflection on foot binding, and had a direct impact on women’s concepts and marriage customs in Shanxi after the disaster. The third part uses the famine to see the women’s movement in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China. In addition to passively accepting all the changes brought about by the disaster, some women also actively participated in the disaster relief process. In addition to donating materials, some educated women also use calligraphy and calligraphy to facilitate relief. In the process of participating in charity relief, women gradually formed groups to develop and grow, and their concept of relief also changed accordingly. With the further development of the relief practice, women’s sense of responsibility for the country and the nation has also strengthened, and women’s awareness of participating in politics has gradually sprouted.Relying on their knowledge and abilities, some women with advanced ideas not only achieved dazzling results in the relief practice, but also stepped onto the political stage and became female political leaders at that time. The discussion on the changes in female psychology and behavior patterns under the background of disasters can not only supplement the research on women’s perspective in the history of disasters, but also improve the social studies of women under the unconventional background in the history of gender. |
