Junior English learning is an important stage for students’ English study.It is a critical period for their physical and psychological growth.For junior high school students,study effect will be greatly reduced if new words are remembered by word and word just as they were in primary schools and the enthusiasm of the students is bound to be very low.This requires teachers to pay more attention to teaching methods to fully mobilize students initiatives for learning.Under the requirements of the new curriculum reform,the English classroom teaching in junior high school should be a bilateral education activity dominated by both students and teachers.I notice that the content of Chant in primary school textbooks is vivid,simple,rhythmic and catchy,which is very popular with children.But in the middle school class,this part of teaching material is often omitted or even completely ignored because the teaching weeks are limited and the teaching tasks are heavy.Therefore in this paper,the author attempts to apply Chant teaching method to middle school English classroom teaching,and to explore its feasibility and effectiveness.First of all,this paper briefly expounds the teaching method of Chant,which sorts out the current situation of the application of the method in English teaching at home and abroad,and discusses the feasibility of using the method in junior middle school English teaching.Secondly,taking 98 students in the seventh grade of an experimental school in Fujian Province as the research object,the author conducted a one-year teaching experiment by carrying out the research tools such as achievement test,questionnaire survey and interview survey,etc.Here the author tries to test the effectiveness of Chant in classroom teaching.In the teaching experiment the experimental class(50 people)adopts Chant teaching mode,while the control class(48 people)still adopts the traditional teaching mode.After the experiment,the author used SPSS to collect and analyze the data.Through the analysis of experimental data and questionnaires and interviews,this study draws the following conclusions:1)The method is helpful to improve the memory and application ability of English vocabulary and grammar;2)It can also effectively improve the junior high school students’academic marks and interest.So Chant is feasible and effective on junior high school English classroom teaching.This study is of theoretical and practical significance to junior middle school English classroom teaching.
