| National English Curriculum Standards for Senior High School(2017)adds a new writing type called summary writing for the college entrance examination in order to effectively test students’ comprehensive ability in English language use,which is worthy of attention and research.Teaching writing is a difficult task for many teachers.After the proposal of summary writing for college entrance examination,some teachers have explored summary writing strategies,teaching models and ability development.However,in the domestic and foreign studies,there are still few researches about targeted and systematic teaching methods for summary writing and their corresponding experimental verification.Therefore,according to the reform of the new curriculum standards,the author designs a “five-step teaching method” for summary writing courses based on the theories of “input hypothesis”,“meaningful learning”,“constructivism” and “humanism”and applies it to summary writing class in senior high school.The “five-step teaching method” includes Read Quickly,Read Carefully,Paraphrase,Connect and Polish the summary in limited time,and Combine Multiple Assessment Methods.Besides,the study combines qualitative and quantitative researches by making analysis of pre-test and post-test,questionnaires and interviews.The study tries to answer questions about English summary writing attitudes and abilities changes of senior high school students after application of the “five-step teaching method.” Major findings are as follows:(1)With the help of the “five-step teaching method”,students’ English summary writing attitudes have become more active.(2)After applying the “five-step teaching method”,there were significant improvements in students’ writing.Meanwhile,some implications are acquired:(1)The application of the“five-step teaching method” to English summary writing in senior high school cannot be limited to textbook materials.(2)Teachers should keep pace with the times by emphasizing the main role of students in the process of reading and writing combined teaching.(3)Assessments and feedbacks are essential when implementing the “five-step teaching method.” The purpose of this research is to provide a certain reference for the creative design of summary writing and to promote the development of English summary writing teaching in senior high school. |
