The Operational Differences Between The Chinese Translation Versions Of Culture-Loaded Words From The Perspective Of Translation Norms

The Good Earth was one of the most admirable masterpieces written by an American writer Pearl S.Buck who won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1938.The culture-loaded words in The Good Earth reflect cultural differences between the east and the west.In the translation of this literary work,it is necessary to fully understand the cultural background of the original work so as to restore the story and characters’ emotions to the greatest extent.Scholars at home and abroad have studied The Good Earth from different perspectives,but they seldom start from the culture-loaded words in The Good Earth to study the differences in actual translation operation of the mainland and Taiwan versions.This thesis,guided by Toury’s translation norms theory,explores the different translation strategies and methods adopted by the two different versions: the mainland and Taiwan versions when translating culture-loaded words in The Good Earth,so as to find a better way to express Chinese culture.In the end,the following conclusions can be drawn:1.In the light of the differences between Chinese and Western languages and cultures and different ideologies of the translators,translators in Chinese mainland and Taiwan have different expressions when translating culture-loaded words in The Good Earth.Therefore,translators should transfer the two languages on the premise of fully understanding the original novel,so as to make the culture-loaded words in the translation closer to Chinese culture.2.The translation of culture-loaded words in The Good Earth is influenced by the translation strategies and methods of different translators,thus reflecting different translation effects.3.In actual translation,the translation operation norms are of great guiding significance in translating culture-loaded words,idioms and rhetoric in The Good Earth.Both versions of the mainland and Taiwan are encouraged to learn from each other,so that better expressions can be found to be consistent with Chinese culture.
