Cloud pattern is an auxiliary decorative pattern in the Dunhuang mural art.In the Sui and Tang Dynasties,on the basis of inheriting the performance of cloud patterns in the Northern and Southern Dynasties,cloud patterns appeared.From the exploration period,development period,maturity period and stylized period,with the development of The Times showed a prosperous,standard,stylized to decline.Through the comparison of literature,it is found that the combination of cloud patterns of different forms and different people and objects plays the functions of filling blank,foil momentum,shaping mountains,fusion space and narrative.Dunhuang art is the product of the mutual influence of Buddhist culture and Central Plains culture,the unimpeded of the Silk Road in the Sui and Tang Dynasties promoted the integration of Dunhuang Buddhism and Central Plains culture,religious principles also inclined to secular life,people’s religious belief and the self-innovation of Dunhuang art,greatly promoted the prosperity and development of cloud lines in Dunhuang murals during this period.Cloud patterns with rich forms and various functions fully reflect the characteristics of religious,regional culture and social aesthetic in Dunhuang in the Sui and Tang Dynasties,and also make the "supporting role" of traditional art history more existing significance and value.
