Study On Mao Zedong’s Thought Of Modernization Of Traditional Culture During The Democratic Revolution

Realizing modernization is the goal that the Chinese Communists have been pursuing since modern times,and the academic circles also have abundant research on modernization.The modernization of traditional culture,an essential component of modernization,determines which path traditional culture will take.Mao Zedong,the core of first-generation leadership of the Party,delivered important theoretical value and brought enlightenment to his era in his exploration of the modernization of traditional culture.This paper,concerned about Mao Zedong’s thought on the modernization of traditional culture during the period of Democratic Revolution,studies its main content from such five aspects as background,necessity,goal,principle and realization,and makes summary on its significance.The shaping of Mao Zedong’s thought on the modernization of traditional culture couldn’t be divorced with the background of the period of Democratic Revolution.The Opium War initiated the period of Democratic Revolution for China and its modernization.At that time,the imperialist contradictions inspired,the two world wars made life difficult for people,and the development of Industrial Revolution brought rich material wealth and great emancipation on mind.Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China,the proletariats got united to put up resistance,Marxism spread rapidly across China,the whole westernization theory and cultural retroism have emerged,and the international and domestic situation was very complicated.In this context,the western culture is in full swing,the revolutionary struggle is in full swing,coupled with the need of traditional culture’s own innovation,the modern transformation of traditional culture hasz great inevitability.Mao Zedong,with a clear goal in the modernization of traditional culture to seek the development of New Culture,actively carried out the dissemination of Marxist theory,strengthening the spiritual transformation of human beings to modernize them,and pursued the unification of improvement and popularization,of ideology and politics,and of the old art and the new era to promote the development of modern literature and art.Confronted with the wrong thoughts in the development of traditional culture,Mao Zedong put forward that the modernization of traditional culture "cannot be separated from the leadership of communism.","cannot be inclusive without criticism" and "respect for history rather than praise the past and the present",which provides clear principles for the modernization of traditional culture.With regard to the promotion of transformation of traditional culture in modern times,Mao Zedong made an active exploration in the revolutionary area,under the premise of adhering to the people’s position and Marxist guidance,popularized education to improve the knowledge level of farmers in the revolutionary area,strengthened the cultural propaganda of the revolutionary area,promoted the contemporary innovative application of traditional Chinese values,and encouraged revolutionary literary criticism and creation,paving a correct path for the modernization of traditional culture during the period of Democratic Revolution.Mao Zedong’s thought on the modernization of traditional cultural during the Democratic revolution opened up the correct direction of cultural modernization,provided us with rich realistic enlightenment,and strengthening the study of Mao Zedong is of great value to building a great modern country with Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
