The report is based on the translation practice of the novel Lost Girl by Adam Nevill,a famous British writer. The novel mainly tells the story of the father’s experiences in the process of searching for his lost daughter in extreme weather and a turbulent society. As a literary text,it is mainly characterized by abundant foregrounded linguistic phenomena, including metaphor, the creation of new words, alliteration, repetition and parallelism.Foregrounded language is a purposeful violation of normal language, which is surprising, novel and unique to readers.Foregrounding can be divided into paradigmatic foregrounding and syntagmatic foregrounding. In this novel, paradigmatic foregrounding includes rhetorical deviation, lexical deviation and phonological deviation, while the syntagmatic foregrounding includes repetition and parallelism. The translation strategy of domestication, the translation method of free translation and the translation skills such as addition, omission and shift are adopted in translating the foregrounded language. This translation report summarizes the types of foregrounded language in the novel, and discusses the difficulties and solutions in the translation process based on the theories of literature, linguistics and translation studies.Hopefully, this report will provide some references for translators facing similar problems.
