Research On The Techniques Of Painting In The Contemporary Wood Sculptures

Wood carving is an essential category in Chinese traditional arts.It owns a long history and relates to the region,culture,folklore and local life.In the Stone Age,wood carving began to develop as functional objects.There was a trend to carve wooden buddha statues and funerary sculptures in the Tang and Song dynasties.In this period,the craftsmen were high-skilled and wooden sculptures were exquisite.It was a booming period of wood carving during the Yuan,Ming and Qing dynasties that wooden carvings were used as furniture decoration.However,this kind of art has developed in the modern art.Wood carvings gradually break away from its functionality and practicability,which promotes the carvings to develop an independent form in the contemporary art.Next,the development of colorful wood carvings can be traced back to the pre-Qin period.The wood sculptures experienced from practicality to independent artistic from,from colorless carvings to colorful ones.This article is mainly divided into four chapters.The first chapter illustrates the development of colored wood carvings,and then defines the concept of painting.In this context,it analyses the process of colored wood sculpture through representative works of different periods.The second chapter particularly analyses the two materials of wood and color.The third chapter is a key part of the article.It expounds the importance and expression of painting in contemporary wood works through some typical cases,which highlights the significance and uniqueness of wood carving creation.The fourth chapter mainly elaborates the exploration and application of painting in individual wood carving works,and explores a personal creative expression through different coloring techniques.Finally,the last chapter is a summary about this context.
