Artistic Modeling Of Yunnan Tengchong Liujiaban’s Shadow Puppets

Tengchong shadow puppets are still shown so fa in the southwestern region of China,the Liujiaban’s shadow puppet is the most influential shadow puppet group,one of the representative in Chinese shadow puppetry in southwestern region.Different from shadow puppets in other provinces,Tengchong shadow puppets is uniquely shaped.This shadow puppets are generally manufactured from cattlehide,while the characters are tall and simple in shape.Furthermore,round lines are masterly used and the pictures are colorfully drawn.In addition,decoration taste of minority can be full-enjoyed.All mentioned before contribute the Tengchong shadow puppets to develop a school of its own in artistic characteristics,conserving distinct artistic value meanwhile.Compared with shadow puppet in other regions,the causes behind the unique characteristics of Liujiaban’s shadow puppet was investigated in this thesis.with the method including literature review,field investigation,case study and interdisciplinary research.Particularly proceeding with the perspective of shape,then analyzing the well-known sculpture craftsman and their corresponding works,this thesis illustrated five aspects of Liujiaban’s shadow puppet art,i.e.development background,types of shadow puppets sculpture,cultural connotation,inheritance and preservation.Therefore,unique artistic value and ideas of Liujiaban’s shadow puppet art are sufficiently explored.
