The selected text in this translation practice report is The Altitude Sickness, which belongs to documentary literature. The text is both narrative and literary.Besides the accurate use of words,it also contains relevant cultural information in the background of the original text. After multiple reviews and combining with the marks of translation difficulties in the process of translation, the author focuses on the two translation difficulties, and discusses how to achieve pragmatic equivalence at the linguistic level and social and cultural level in the third chapter of this paper,Case Study. At the linguistic level, pragmatic equivalence is mainly reflected in how to reproduce the original information, which is subdivided into clarifying the meaning of words, expressing feelings and reproducing rhetorical effect. At the social cultural level, pragmatic equivalence is mainly reflected in the compensation and transformation of cultural information. In order to achieve the comprehensibility and accuracy of the translation,it is necessary to compensate and transform the cultural information that the target language readers do not understand, and bridge the differences between different languages and cultures by combining the different cultural background knowledge of the original text and the translation.Through the summary of the key and difficult points in the translation process of this paper,it is expected to achieve the practical and aesthetic translation of documentary literature through the pragmatic equivalence theory, and provide a new direction for the future research of documentary literature.
