| Based on the English-Chinese translation practice of “Overripe Economy”(Chapters 3,5 and 7),this translation report mainly summarizes the difficulties in the translation process, and sums up the translation methods and techniques of conceptual metaphors in economic texts. This book, based on real historical events, leads its readers to review the history of American capitalism: from the ruthless competition in the 19 th century to the maturity of industrial capitalism in the early 20 th century, and then to the decline of the financial industry today. The book quotes many critical remarks, which includes abundant conceptual metaphors with literary features.Besides this, the author of the book himself is also used to expressing his attitude towards some historical phenomena in the development of American capitalism with relatively obscure metaphors. All these add to the difficulties in this translation practice.According to text type theories, this text is an informative and expressive text. Therefore, the transmission of both information and emotion in this text should be accounted for.In order to achieve this goal,on the basis of a deep understanding of the original text, free translation is employed as the main method, supplemented by shift, extension, addition and other translation techniques. This report divides the conceptual metaphors in the translation practice into ontological metaphors, orientational metaphors and structural metaphors and reports on the translation difficulties,problem-solving processes and translation solutions for these three types of metaphor, which has deepened my understanding of conceptual metaphors and their translation methods. It is expected that this report can provide some references for translators engaged in economic text translation. |
